tales of nature and earth #2
The Scottish Thistle - Beautifully Bold!

The Scottish Thistle is the oldest recorded 'National Flower' and is probably one of the most well-known, and easily recognized symbols of Scotland.
Image
here's a rich history and several legends surrounding the thistle,

One of the best-known thistle legends takes place in the mid 13th century during a surprise invasion by the soldiers of the Norse king, Haakon, at Largs (one of western Scotland's coastal towns).

A sleeping party of Scots warriors were saved from an ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the attackers stepped on a thistle with his bare feet. His outburst raised the alarm, and the Scots defeated the invaders.

The first use of the thistle as a royal symbol of Scotland was on silver coins issued by James III in 1470.
by the 15th century the Scottish thistle was being used as a national emblem.

Pain, protection and pride – pretty much sum up the different representations of the thistle

One Persian legend tells that pearls were created when a rainbow met the earth after a storm. Imperfections in a pearl's appearance were thought to be the result of thunder and lightning.
* because of their shape, pearls have another watery association. Some stories say white pearls are tears shed by the gods. One legend says the tears Eve cried when she was banished from Eden turned to pearls.

* As white gems, pearls remain popular gifts for brides. (It’s even said pearls can keep newlywed brides from crying)
Image
*Traditionally, the Chinese love golden pearls, believing they bring prosperity and luck. Chinese artworks often depict dragons holding golden pearls in their mouths or claws.
Image
*The pearl represented the journey of the soul or spirit along the path to perfection. In ancient burials, mourners placed pearls in the mouths of the deceased. Since pearls apparently contained the principles of life, they hoped they could assist the dead on their journeys beyond :o

* It is also associated with hidden wisdom, patience and peace. Pearls have been throughout the ages a sign of wealth.
The blue pearl was traditionally associated with love.
Image
*The brown pearl was worn for protection. The pink pearl was thought to promote fame and success. Black pearls was used to enhance wealth. This is the color to wear if you want to feel rich and attract prosperity. The white pearl was a symbol of beauty, purity and new beginnings :afro:

Henry Robert Pearce

Image

meet Henry Olympic Rower who Stopped to Let Some Ducks Swim By and Still Won the Gold Medal

Image
it should also be noted that not only was Pearce able to beat oponent by nearly half a minute after coming to a complete stop in the middle of the race, but in that race he also finished with the fastest time of any of the eight competitors that round.

We should also probably mention that this was during the elimination portion of the competition meaning Pearce had risked his chance of winning an Olympic medal for his country in his first Olympics to let the ducks pass.

tasty tale #2

the world's top tasty food

"There is no love sincerer than the love of food," George Bernard Shaw said. Judging by the number of amazing dishes out there, he was right.

let travel around the world, it will help you to plan your own tour :) by article on CNN page I will put here top food which was choose by readers of CNN page :)

Fettucini alfredo, Italy The main ingredients are butter and Parmesan cheese; it's rich and creamy and it can be made in 15 minutes
Image

Fajitas, MexicoStep 1: Behold the meat sizzling on a fiery griddle. Step 2: Along with the meat, throw side servings of capsicum, onion, guacamole, sour cream and salsa into a warm, flour tortilla. Step 3: Promise all within hearing range that you'll have "just one more." Step 4: Repeat.
Image

Masala dosa, India
A crispy, rice-batter crepe encases a spicy mix of mashed potato, which is then dipped in coconut chutney, pickles, tomato-and-lentil-based sauces and other condiments. It's a fantastic breakfast food that'll keep you going till lunch

Image

Moo nam tok, Thailand, Grilled pork combined with lemon juice, green onions, chili, mint sprigs, fish sauce and toasted rice

Image

Shrimp dumpling, Hong KongSucculent shrimps, steamed well but not overdone, wrapped inside translucent rice paper. This simple form of dim sum has been a must-eat dish for decades.
Image
Fried chicken, United States
Image
Tacos, Mexico, A fresh, handmade tortilla stuffed with small chunks of grilled beef rubbed in oil and sea salt then covered with guacamole, salsa, onions, cilantro or anything else you want -- perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Image
Bulgogi, KoreaLiterally meaning "fire" and "meat,"
Image

Pho, VietnamThis oft-mispronounced national dish ("fuh" is correct) is just broth, fresh rice noodles, a few herbs and usually chicken or beef. But it's greater than the sum of its parts -
Image

Croissant, FranceImage
Gelato, Italy
Image

Kebab, TurkeyImage

Ramen, JapanJapanese protocol says the tastier your ramen is, the louder you should slurp it up to show respect to your chef. Not that they need more respect. One mouthful of this most Japanese of noodle broths will quickly tell you that either you have a ramen trigger in your brain, or Japanese chefs are geniuses.Image

Rendang, IndonesiaBeef is slowly simmered with coconut milk and a mixture of lemongrass, galangal, garlic, turmeric, ginger and chilies, then left to stew for a few hours to create this dish of tender, flavorful bovine goodness.

aaah its so few, as there are more much more foods from around the world which make you carzy
