This image hits me in the feels. Here is a little girl looking in the mirror with a picture of Marilyn Monroe in her lap. Her toys are tossed to the side in favor of the large mirror, her combs and lipsticks behind her. She wants to feel pretty. Her childhood is seemingly gone.
This is the story of "Girl at Mirror" by Norman Rockwell.

Seas of umbrellaed people wet from head to feet
But at least one thing is clear
London is my home no matter how miserable it may appear

"The Starry Night"
-by Vincent Van Gogh.
The painting is aesthetically pleasing and calming to me.
It's a quiet, bright sky with stars shining like gems in the dark.
The little town sleeps through the night, not aware of the beautiful sky above.
.
.
This painting actually depicts a scene from the painter's asylum room before dawn.

I'm personally a huge fan of Vincent Van Gogh. Not only because of painting but also quotes. I feel very much inspired and deeply touch by his quotes. And there is this quote by him "how difficult it is to be simple" and I can totally relate it to this painting. Today, in the world I feel we are allured to fancy things more than simple things. We love the contrived form of things more than it's simple and natural form. I love the simplicity and the colors of the painting. Not to heavy just perfect enough to make it look simple.

I love this picture! It makes me feel calm and whenever I am angry I can always rely on this painting just to make me feel calm and not be stressed. Every time I look at this picture there is always something new to to notice! It just reminds me to be myself.

Self Portrait as the Allegory of Painting by Artemisia Gentileschi
Image
I've always admired Gentileschi's work for portraying women as strong and autonomous. Feminist scholars have taken an interest in her for this very reason. In an era where women in the arts were unseen, Gentileschi made a name for herself and her legacy as a feminist painter carries on to the modern era.

I dressed as the mermaid from art piece Little mermaid, made by Steve Ferris. Since the mermaid on actual drawing is a bit provocative i am putting a link, rather than posting photo of it:
Little mermaid by Steve Ferris

Why this piece? I absolutely LOVE mermaids (hence why my LP closet is full of mermaid clothes as much as my limited resources allowed me to get) so i knew ican do a mermaid look. There are many mermaid portraits that i could imitate or use as inspiration but that one just popped into my mind since it is one of my faves. Maybe because blue is my absolute fave color and i find the tail of this mermaid sooo mesmarizing. Overall the whole mermaid is soo eye catchingand it is rather sexy but not completely nude or too sexual (i dislike when people sexualize everything too much) so i feel like it is just the right amount of sexy and beautiful to still be "tasty" and not too provocative as most mermaid art pieces out there. So i decided to chose exactly this one as it is already pretty much "censorship safe" and i can use this look on my lady completely fine :)
