That's so racist. It's called blackface - look it up.

Why do you think it's racist? This is just a dress up game. Moreover, there already was a similar contest (viewtopic.php?f=22&t=101051&hilit=tribal) and nobody had a problem with it.

Dear lady,

I was both surprised and intrigued by your comment. I must admit I had no idea what the word 'blackface' meant, so I looked it up. Here's what I found: 'blackface = the makeup used by a nonblack performer playing a black role. The role played is typically comedic or musical and usually is considered offensive.'

I come from an eastern European country where black slavery and racial segregation are unknown, they are not part of our history. I was worried I had unknowingly offended any black people, so I did my research. My idea for the contest came while reading about the cultural diversity of Africa and was not meant as mockery towards black people. There are many remarkable black people whom I greatly appreciate: Whitney Houston, Maya Angelou, Barack Obama, Oprah etc. Just because I'm white and they're black it doesn't mean I can't show my appreciation for them, as they've had a certain impact on my life at some point.

I didn't understand why you labeled me as 'racist', so I asked many people (both black and white) if they thought the same thing. The answer was unanimous: no.

So, if you have a problem, you're clearly the only one. Moreover, the forum's administrators wouldn't have let me make any racist suggestions.

Thank you :)
